Description

Private collection.

Historical context

In the quiet innocence of her youth, princess Kunti received a sacred mantra from Sage Durvasa, a profound boon that would grant her the divine grace of invoking any deity. Driven by youthful curiosity and a heart overflowing with wonder, she turned her gaze toward the sky and chanted the sacred syllables to invoke Surya, the radiant Sun God. As the golden celestial light enveloped her majestic palace balcony, awe and trembling apprehension intertwined within her young soul. Bound by the mantra's immortal power, Surya appeared before her, bestowing upon her a child possessing divine golden armor and earrings, who would grow up to be the tragic hero Karna. This magnificent masterpiece captures that singular moment of innocent contemplation and sacred vulnerability, where human youth meets cosmic majesty under the brilliant light of the morning sun.
