The Poet
Hariom Panwar
1958 · 2015
Hariom Panwar possesses a voice that can literally shake a stadium. Born in 1949 in the Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh, he serves as a living monument to the Veer Rasa or heroic poetry tradition in contemporary Hindi literature. While many modern poets moved toward introspection or quiet social commentary, Panwar kept the roaring fire of patriotic verse alive. For decades, he has been an undisputed titan of the Kavi Sammelan stage, reading poems that address national security, the sacrifices of soldiers on the borders, and the political handling of Kashmir. He writes with fierce, uncompromising nationalism, yet his command over rhythm and phrasing ensures his poetry never devolves into mere sloganeering. He works as a professor of law, bringing analytical rigor to his fiery verses. Panwar proves that the oral tradition of Hindi poetry still holds the immense power to awaken the collective conscience and bring millions of listeners to their feet.

Paired Painting
Baji Prabhu Deshpande and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
This painting captures a profound moment of sacrifice and undying loyalty in the history of the Maratha Empire. It depicts Baji Prabhu Deshpande, the valiant commander, standing before his sovereign, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The setting is the rugged pass of Ghodkhind, which would later be renamed Pavan Khind, or the Pass of the Sacred, in honor of the blood spilled there. Baji Prabhu pledged to hold back the enemy forces to ensure the safe passage of his king, fighting until his very last breath. His stance reflects a lifetime of devotion, while the king gestures toward the path ahead, heavy with the knowledge of the sacrifice his loyal friend was prepared to make. It remains a poignant symbol of the bond between a leader and a devoted servant, echoing through the hills of Maharashtra as an eternal testament to courage.
