Tahon Mein Dilon Ke Chipi Baat Koi
5 verses · ~1 min

Nala and Damayanti in the Forest
This poignant scene captures a moment of profound vulnerability from the ancient epic of the Mahabharata. King Nala, having lost his kingdom and fallen into exile, rests under the protective canopy of the forest with his devoted wife, Damayanti. Despite the heavy burden of their displacement, the artist portrays their bond as a singular sanctuary. The ethereal face appearing in the clouds reminds us of the divine destiny and the watchful gaze of the gods, which accompanies the couple through their trials. It is a work that speaks to the endurance of love amidst the fragility of human fortune, rendered with the soft, flowing grace typical of the early twentieth century Indian nationalist art movement.
