Gajalakshmi

This profound chromolithograph captures Goddess Lakshmi in her form as Gajalakshmi, the divine harbinger of wealth, abundance, and royal grace. Standing serenely upon a blossoming pink lotus amidst a gentle river, she holds blossoming lotuses in her upper hands while bestowing fearlessness and charity with her lower arms. A magnificent white elephant emerges from the crystalline waters to worship her, holding a garland of flowers in its trunk. Raja Ravi Varma revolutionized Indian spirituality by bringing celestial deities into the realm of tangible human emotion and classical realism, allowing devotees to experience a deeply personal connection with the divine through these widespread oleographs.
