Paired Painting
Yashoda and Krishna
In this tender depiction, Raja Ravi Varma captures a timeless moment of maternal devotion, grounding the divine narrative of Lord Krishna in the relatable warmth of domestic life. Yashoda, the foster mother of Krishna, gazes upon the child with profound affection, while an attendant kneels in graceful reverence. By painting these legendary figures with the anatomical precision of European realism, Varma bridged the gap between the sacred past and the contemporary Indian household, forever changing the way millions visualized their deities.
