नाम पे मेरे हामी भर थी पर हामी से जल गए लोग। काश! कि मैं बदनाम न होता बदनामी से जल गए लोग।।
बज़्मे-जहाँ भी उस अत तौबा कोना-कोना छाने कौन। मैं नाकाम थका बैठा था नाकामी से जल गए लोग।।
होती मुझमें ख़ूबी तो फिर ख़ूबी की मैं सोचता ख़ैर। ख़ामी-ख़ामी भर हूँ पर ख़ामी से जल गए लोग।।
ख़ास-उल-ख़ास के चर्चे हर सू ख़ूब है यारो बज़्मे- आप। ख़ासी ठंडी सीरत वाले इक आमी से जल गए लोग।।
कू-ए-बुताँ में ज़ेरे- अदालत सुबह 'शलभ' की पेशी थी। मुंसिफ़ की क्या बात करो लो आसामी से जल गए लोग।।

शलभ श्रीराम सिंह की यह रचना उनकी निजी डायरी से कविता कोश को चित्रकार और हिन्दी के कवि कुँअर रवीन्द्र के सहयोग से प्राप्त हुई। शलभ जी मृत्यु से पहले अपनी डायरियाँ और रचनाएँ उन्हें सौंप गए थे।
