उस प्रभात, तू बात न माने, तोड़ कुन्द कलियाँ ले आई, फिर उनकी पंखड़ियाँ तोड़ीं पर न वहाँ तेरी छवि पाई,
कलियों का यम मुझ में धाया तब साजन क्यों दौड़ न आया?
फिर पंखड़ियाँ ऊग उठीं वे फूल उठी, मेरे वनमाली! कैसे, कितने हार बनाती फूल उठी जब डाली-डाली!
सूत्र, सहारा, ढूँढं न पाया तू, साजन, क्यों दौड़ न आया?
दो-दो हाथ तुम्हारे मेरे प्रथम `हार' के हार बनाकर, मेरी `हारों' की वन माला फूल उठी तुझको पहिनाकर,
पर तू था सपनों पर छाया तू साजन, क्यों दौड़ न आया?
दौड़ी मैं, तू भाग न जाये, डालूँ गलबहियों की माला फूल उठी साँसों की धुन पर मेरी `हार', कि तेरी `माला'!
तू छुप गया, किसी ने गाया- रे साजन, क्यों दौड़ न आया!
जी की माल, सुगंध नेह की सूख गई, उड़ गई, कि तब तू दूलह बना; दौड़कर बोला पहिना दो सूखी वनमाला।
मैं तो होश समेट न पाई तेरी स्मृति में प्राण छुपाया,
युग बोला, तू अमर तस्र्ण है मति ने स्मृति आँचल सरकाया, जी में खोजा, तुझे न पाया तू साजन, क्यों दौड़ न आया?
