कल चौंदहवीं की रात थी शब भर रहा चर्चा तिरा कुछ ने कहा ये चाँद है कुछ ने कहा चेहरा तिरा

हम भी वहीं मौजूद थे हम से भी सब पूछा किए हम हँस दिए हम चुप रहे मज़ूंर था पर्दा तिरा

इस शहर में किस से मिलें हम से तो छूटीं महफ़िलें हर शख़्स तेरा नाम ले हर शख़्स दीवाना तिरा

कूचे को तेरे छोड़ कर जोगी ही बन जाएँ मगर जंगल तिरे पर्बत तिरे बस्ती तिरी सहरा तिरा

हम और रस्म-ए-बंदगी आशुफ़्तगी उफ़्तादगी एहसान है क्या क्या तिरा ऐ हुस्न-ए-बे-परवा तिरा

Sher Muhammad Khan, immortalized under the pen name Ibn-e-Insha, was a literary wanderer who observed the world with a brilliant mix of deep melancholy and razor sharp wit. Born in 1927 in the Jalandhar district of Punjab, he migrated to Pakistan and became one of the most beloved Urdu poets and travelogue writers of his generation. His most famous ghazal Insha Ji Utho Ab Kooch Karo carries an overwhelming sense of world weariness and final departure, sung beautifully by generations of classical vocalists. Yet, alongside this intense sorrow, he authored travelogues filled with hilarious, biting satire that dissected human follies across the globe. He served in the United Nations, traveling extensively before his premature death in London in 1978. He remains the poet of the restless soul, wrapping profound existential grief inside breathtaking lyrical beauty.
