Geet Chaturvedi
1977 · 2010
Geet Chaturvedi is widely regarded as one of the most brilliant and aesthetically ambitious voices of twenty first century Hindi literature. His celebrated poetry collections like Aalaap Mein Girah and Minimum Main capture the profound melancholies of contemporary life without ever losing their lyrical beauty. Awarded the prestigious Bharat Bhushan Agarwal Award, his work has been translated into numerous international languages, proving the global resonance of his themes. He represents a generation of writers who confidently place Hindi literature in direct conversation with global literary movements while remaining firmly rooted in Indian realities.

Paired Painting
Yudhisthira and His Dog, Ascending
This profound work depicts the final, poignant moment from the Mahabharata, the Svargarohanika Parva. Yudhisthira, the embodiment of righteousness, stands at the threshold of the heavens. He is accompanied by his loyal dog, whom he refused to abandon even when offered entry into the celestial realms alone. The painting captures the spiritual weight of his choice, showcasing a soul so anchored in compassion that it would renounce paradise itself for the sake of a faithful companion. Nandalal Bose masterfully employs the wash technique to create a dreamlike, ethereal atmosphere, reflecting the transition between the mortal world and the divine hereafter. His brushstrokes invite us to contemplate the virtue of unwavering loyalty and the quiet dignity of a righteous heart.
