The Poet
Shiv Bahadur Singh Bhadauria
Dr. Shiv Bahadur Singh Bhadauria was a foundational pillar of the Navgeet movement, redefining the landscape of modern Hindi lyric poetry. Born in 1927 in the Raebareli district of Uttar Pradesh, he devoted his life to both academic scholarship and literary creation. Bhadauria rejected the rigid orthodoxies of earlier poetic forms, choosing instead to infuse the traditional lyric with contemporary themes, rural sensibilities, and deep social awareness. Through seminal collections like 'Purwaa Jo Dol Gayee' and 'Shinjanee', his verses captured the breathing reality of village life alongside the shifting emotions of a modernizing India. Serving for decades as an educator and college principal, his influence shaped generations of writers. He possessed a rare ability to craft language that was highly musical yet intellectually sharp, ensuring that the Navgeet genre retained both its melodic charm and its relevance to ordinary human struggles.
