Ashok Anjum
1961 · 2000s
Ashok Anjum holds a highly respected place in modern Hindi literature as a devoted guardian of lyrical traditions. Born in 1958 in Aligarh, he dedicated his creative life to enriching the Navgeet, Doha, and Ghazal forms. At a time when contemporary poetry heavily favored free verse, Anjum insisted on the necessity of rhythm and classical structure. He writes with profound sensitivity about changing human values, rural displacement, and the moral decay of modern society. Beyond his own poetic output, he has been a prominent editor and a guiding force in reviving the literary prestige of the Aligarh region. His verses carry the quiet dignity of a man who observes the world deeply, using gentle melodies to deliver razor sharp social critique.

Disrobing of Draupadi
This profound masterpiece depicts one of the most agonizing moments in the great epic Mahabharata, where Draupadi, the queen of the Pandavas, stands exposed to the merciless gaze of విశਾਲ the Kaurava court during a rigged game of dice. Dushasana attempts to strip her of her dignity and garments, while elders like Bhishma and Dhritarashtra sit paralyzed by moral cowardice on their ornate throne. Amidst the depths of despair, Draupadi raises her hands in absolute surrender and prayer, invoking Lord Krishna. In a display of divine grace and boundless compassion, a celestial, translucent figure of Krishna appears behind her, endlessly replenishing her garments to protect her honor, shown by the towering pile of colorful silks pooling on the marble floor. Dhurandhar masterfully balances raw human cruelty with transcendent spiritual intervention, freezing a moment where mortal sin meets immortal grace.
