जहाँ जो भी टोकरी उठाई उसके नीचे छोटी चुहियों-सी दबी-पड़ी दीख गई कितनी इच्छाएँ!
श्रीमती कार्लेकर उलझन में पड़ीं क्या-क्या ख़रीदें, किससे कैसे निबटें! सूझा नहीं कुछ तो झाड़न उठाई झाड़ आईं सब टोकरियाँ बाहर चूहेदानी में इच्छाएँ फँसाईं (हुलर-मुलर सारी इच्छाएँ) और कहा कार्लेकर साहब से– “चलो ज़रा, गंगा नहा आएँ!”
